SRI's innovative thinking depends directly on the people who work here. Meet members of our team in Computing and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and Materials, Drug Discovery, Drug Development and HealthEconomics and Education, Environment and Energy, Business Development, and Administration and Corporate Activities, and learn why they joined SRI—you may discover that you would like to join the team, too. Visit Careers at SRI for descriptions of current openings.

Meet Christine Cuppoletti, Research Scientist, Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory

Christine CuppolettiFocus at SRI
My focus is on organic electronics — carbon-based materials that can transport electrons. Applications such as lighting, displays, and voltaics need solutions that are more affordable, lighter, flexible, and efficient. Organic electronics is one way to achieve these improvements.

Day in the life of SRI
Every day is a mix of challenges and opportunities. Depending on where I am in a project, I will dive directly into the lab, strategize, or touch base with colleagues in business development. SRI offers me the chance to be involved with every phase of my research, from client relations to prototype testing.

Before SRI
Before SRI, I was a staff scientist at Sandia National Laboratories.

Academics
University of Rochester, Chemistry Ph.D.
Eastern Illinois University, Chemistry B.S.

Why SRI?
I was attracted by the energy of the people at SRI, and I have enjoyed getting caught up in the enthusiasm. I like my colleagues. I also feel that the infrastructure here enables me to do my very best work.

Inspiration and motivation
I am motivated by the desire to use the world's precious resources more responsibly. I would like to make innovative changes in the way we use, generate, and store energy.

What has changed in your field since you began your career, and what new or exciting trends are you seeing?
The most exciting development I have seen is in dye-sensitized solar cells, which are more efficient under indirect or diffused sunlight than in strong sunlight. This makes them the near-perfect solar material for building facades.

Languages
English and Italian

Away from the Office
I enjoy exploring the world with my children. We study languages and culture, listen to music, explore nature, and try new foods. We read history books before bed and talk about refraction of light when we see rainbows. It is a joy to see the excitement in their eyes as they make sense of the world around them.

Words of Wisdom for SRI Colleagues
Get to know your colleagues and take an interest in what they are working on. Not only will you grow professionally, it also makes work a lot more fun.
