Meet... Helen Parish
Focus @ SRI: Analytical Chemistry
Title: Director, Analytical Chemistry
Day in the Life @ SRI: Marketing and sales to commercial and government
clients; troubleshooting technical issues with staff; reviewing and approving
reports and regulatory documentation; managing personnel issues (all that
in a "normal"day!)
Track Record: Accomplishments include involvement in the development
of new drugs for treatment of human diseases; management of an SRI project
to produce laboratory proficiency testing samples for an international
program of 1,500 occupational health laboratories.
Why SRI?: I came to SRI because I wanted to work somewhere that
would have variety and ever-changing challenges. Each new project or client
is like starting a new job.
What do you find most rewarding about your work at SRI?: Making
a contribution to so many important projects dedicated to occupational,
environmental, and health issues.
Inspiration/Perspiration: I'm motivated by the idea that our work
makes a difference in the quality of people's lives.
Away from the Office: Keeping up with my children and
watching DVDs with my husband.
Languages: Mac OS (I'm about the only one left in the division
with a Macintosh!)
Proudest Accomplishment: Professionally, earning a master's degree
at Stanford University-courtesy of SRI's tuition reimbursement program-and
attaining board certification in industrial hygiene.
