SRI International's Marine Technology Program, located in St. Petersburg, Florida, specializes in the study of surface and subsurface marine environments. These studies involve experiments, research, development, deployment, and operations of advanced sensors and their systems. The staff conducts research and engineering in optics, acoustics, MEMS, mass spectrometry, and related marine sciences.
The Marine Technology Program is central to the National Center for Maritime and Port Security (NCMPS), which is lead by SRI. The NCMPS brings together national experts on detecting, preventing, responding to and recovering from terrorist events in the maritime domain. It provides a highly capable, collaborative institution for counterterrorism and preparedness.
SRI's Marine Technology program was created through a unique collaboration between SRI, the state of Florida, the city of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, and the Center for Ocean Technology, which is part of the University of South Florida's College of Marine Science.
