Garrett Wang, CEO and co-founder of Cerbrec, knows that subject matter experts in every field donāt typically come with the skill set to tailor and incorporate todayās advanced AI models for their workflows. Here, he discusses his entrepreneurial path, his search for impactful solutions, and how he is leveraging SRIās Computer Vision researchers to make it easy for researchers, engineers, and academics to create bespoke AI solutions for their daily work.

My father and uncle were entrepreneurs, and when I was growing up, I was interested in how they ran their businesses. Iāve always had a drive to solve problems, and creating a startup is arguably the best way to do that. Now, I’m turning that passion into reality and Iām ready to help make a meaningful impact with the power of AI.
After getting my undergraduate degree in information systems, I went to Johns Hopkins for my masterās degree. I met some great professors and began working on machine learning and natural language processing. One project was analyzing billions of texts on social media to identify how people feel about certain products or companies. I also took courses in accounting, finance, and business.
After graduation, I focused on AI and machine learning at startups and enterprises such as United Health Group. I learned that as AI and machine learning models grew bigger and became more complex, they also became increasingly difficult for most people to apply to their use cases. Researchers and engineers in vertical fields such as bio-pharma and academia have many use cases for AI, but they often donāt have the skills to build and customize AI for production, which holds them back from adopting these technologies.

The strong technical and business team at Cerbrec, including my co-founder David Winer, work with SRI to develop Cerbrec to bridge this gap and help create specific AI systems to help any application or workflow.
Together, with a team of researchers in SRIās Computer Vision lab, we are adding SRIās technology into our platform to recommend fixes to AI errors and improve accuracy for production AI models. Our graphical development platform, called Graphbook, demonstrated an 80% reduction in the time it takes to build bespoke AI through a simple drag-and-drop interface.
