The Twin Research Registry™ at SRI International, established in 1995 by SRI’s Center for Health Sciences, welcomes the participation of fraternal and identical twins in our research. Learn about our current and recent studies:

Flu vaccine studySRI_TRR_YoungTwins

SRI International is recruiting twins for a seasonal flu vaccine study led by Stanford University. Healthy fraternal and identical twins in the following age groups are needed to participate in the 2011 study:

- 8-17* identical twins only
-
18-30 fraternal and identical
- 40-64 fraternal and identical
- 65-100 identical twins only

The study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

The goal of this study is to ultimately help scientists develop more effective vaccines.

* Parent or guardian written approval required for twins under 18 years of age.

Zoster (shingles) vaccine study

SRI_TRR_TwinsSRI is recruiting identical twin pairs for two studies related to the varicella zoster virus—the virus responsible for chicken pox and shingles. Twins who participate in either study need to have had chicken pox in the past.

We are seeking healthy twin pairs in the following age groups:
- 40-49 for a single visit to Stanford, to provide a blood sample
- age 50 and older. These twins will receive, at no charge, the Zostavax® vaccine to protect against an outbreak of shingles and its associated pain. Four additional visits are needed to measure the immune response to the vaccine.

The Zostavax® vaccine is approved by the FDA for use in adults age 50 years and older.

The information from these studies could lead to an improvement in vaccination strategies and identification of ways to improve vaccine responses in older individuals.

Both twins in a pair need to participate.

Pain sensitivity study (recently completed)
Twin sistersSRI International, in collaboration with Stanford University, has completed a study to help researchers clarify the role of genetics in pain relief.

SRI enrolled fraternal and identical twins aged 18-70 for a study about the effects of opioid therapy. The study, led by Stanford University, was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

By joining the Twin Research Registry™ at SRI International, you will also have the opportunity to participate in other studies and receive periodic newsletters. Call 1-800-SRI-TWIN or e-mail us at sri.twin@sri.com. You can also register at www.sri.com/twin.

Twins and multiples are uniquely valuable to research on the balance between genetics and environment, and their impact on health. SRI appreciates the contribution volunteer twins have made to previous studies. We look forward to telling you more about how you can participate.
