Senior Research Engineer, Ocean Modeling

Thomas Almeida, Ph.D., has research interests in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), hydrodynamic modeling, algorithm development, and inverse modeling and data assimilation. His most recent work has been in the areas of nearshore processes and riverine modeling. He has also worked with SRI’s Robotics Program in coupled CFD and multi-body dynamic (MBD) modeling and analysis.

Prior to joining SRI, Almeida spent four years with General Dynamics-AIS working on various Navy and DARPA projects (primarily Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes and turbulence modeling), and one year with Exa Corporation primarily focused on vehicle thermal analysis (full three-dimensional analysis of conduction, convection and radiation). Before entering the world of engineering R&D, Almeida spent three years as a high school math teacher in Holt, Michigan.

Almeida earned his B.S. in pure mathematics from the University of Michigan and his M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
