Stefan Heck to join SRI’s board of directors

Heck will bring deep experience in  AI, autonomous driving, sustainability, and other disruptive technologies.


SRI, an independent nonprofit research institute headquartered in Silicon Valley, announced today that Stefan Heck will join its Board of Directors, effective June 1. Heck is CEO and Founder of Nauto, the Palo Alto‐based AI‐technology company on a mission to make driving safer and more efficient.

Prior, he was a consulting professor at the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford University, directed the Energy Transformation Collaborative, and was a research fellow at the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford’s business and law schools. Earlier, he was a senior partner at McKinsey, co‐founded and led the Cleantech and Sustainability practice, and worked with 100 global partners around the world.

Heck is an active angel investor for disruptive technology companies and has served on the boards of Silicon Valley Leadership Group and GaN Systems. He is co-author of Resource Revolution: How to Capture the Biggest Business Opportunity in a Century.

Heck earned his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from UCSD and his B.S. with honors in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University. As an undergrad, he launched Stanford’s first Solar Car project, which continues today.
