Erin Smith supports several research projects related to K–12 education and post-secondary supports. Her current projects focus on teacher residency programs and research practice partnerships.

Smith has experience in project management, qualitative data collection and observation, and policy writing. She also has extensive knowledge of college and career access and pathways, career and technical education, and education advocacy.

Before joining SRI, Smith worked as a graduate research assistant at Vanderbilt University where she worked on the New Jersey Families Study (NJFS) project. Her work with NJFS consisted of coding observational video data and pulling out themes around child negotiation. Prior to this, Smith spent 2 years working in Philadelphia with historically underserved students who were interested in pursuing post-secondary opportunities; she also taught first and second-grade English in Aranjuez, Spain. Smith holds a Master of Public Policy in education policy from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Arts in public health and business administration, with a minor in Spanish, from Franklin & Marshall College.
