The CEO and co-founder of Cerbrec works with SRI to simplify AI for a range of industries.

Garrett Wang, CEO and co-founder of Cerbrec, knows that subject matter experts in every field don’t typically come with the skill set to tailor and incorporate today’s advanced AI models for their workflows. Here, he discusses his entrepreneurial path, his search for impactful solutions, and how he is leveraging SRI’s Computer Vision researchers to make it easy for researchers, engineers, and academics to create bespoke AI solutions for their daily work.

My father and uncle were entrepreneurs, and when I was growing up, I was interested in how they ran their businesses. I’ve always had a drive to solve problems, and creating a startup is arguably the best way to do that. Now, I’m turning that passion into reality and I’m ready to help make a meaningful impact with the power of AI.

After getting my undergraduate degree in information systems, I went to Johns Hopkins for my master’s degree. I met some great professors and began working on machine learning and natural language processing. One project was analyzing billions of texts on social media to identify how people feel about certain products or companies. I also took courses in accounting, finance, and business.

After graduation, I focused on AI and machine learning at startups and enterprises such as United Health Group. I learned that as AI and machine learning models grew bigger and became more complex, they also became increasingly difficult for most people to apply to their use cases. Researchers and engineers in vertical fields such as bio-pharma and academia have many use cases for AI, but they often don’t have the skills to build and customize AI for production, which holds them back from adopting these technologies.

“We are adding SRI’s technology into our platform that recommends fixes to AI errors and improves accuracy for production AI models.” — Garrett Wang

The strong technical and business team at Cerbrec, including my co-founder David Winer, work with SRI to develop Cerbrec to bridge this gap and help create specific AI systems to help any application or workflow.

Together, with a team of researchers in SRI’s Computer Vision lab, we are adding SRI’s technology into our platform to recommend fixes to AI errors and improve accuracy for production AI models. Our graphical development platform, called Graphbook, demonstrated an 80% reduction in the time it takes to build bespoke AI through a simple drag-and-drop interface.

Working with SRI has been tremendous. The technology synergy helps us bring solutions to market faster, and being a part of SRI’s portfolio adds credibility. The team at SRI helps with investor introductions and other ecosystem partners — and that carries a lot of value.

We are on a mission to empower subject matter experts to build bespoke AI systems across industries from life sciences to healthcare to academia and more. Our strongest traction is with mid-sized companies that can’t afford to hire AI experts, which impedes their ability to go to market and stay ahead of competitors. We eliminate the need to hire expensive AI experts and offer a simple-to-use but powerful graphical interface.

I’m passionate about empowering small AI teams to deliver advanced applications and workflows. AI’s impact will help many industries in ways we can’t even imagine yet.
