Michael G. Kane

Michael Kane is a Senior Principal Research Scientist in SRI’s Advanced Technology and Systems Division. He has over 35 years of experience in electronic materials and devices, inorganic and organic thin-film transistor technologies, active-matrix OLED and liquid-crystal displays, anti-tamper sensors and systems and mixed-signal circuit design.

Dr. Kane has led several research programs for the U.S. Government. He led the DARPA SHIELD program for protecting military electronic systems from counterfeit components, for which he won an SRI Achievement Award. Previously he was Principal Investigator for the DARPA Flexible Display program, which resulted in the first video-capable active matrix display on a plastic substrate, leading to a Sarnoff Corporation Achievement award. Before joining SRI, he was Project Leader of the Ultrafast All-Optical Switching Project at Siemens Corporate Research and Group Head of the Analog and Digital IC Design Group at Microwave Semiconductor Corp. He is the author or co-author of about 80 technical papers and holds 19 U.S. patents. He has served as a visiting faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University, teaching courses in solid state physics.

Dr. Kane received his undergraduate and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, where he studied ultrafast carrier-carrier scattering among photoexcited nonequilibrium carriers in semiconductors.

Dr. Kane was named an SRI Fellow in 2021.
