Mike Freedman
Vice President, Communications
Mike Freedman is Vice President of Communications at SRI, overseeing the institute’s internal and external marketing and communications. In his role, Freedman drives visibility for SRI’s impactful work and world-changing solutions with a focus on communicating with employees and customers, as well as building the SRI brand.
Freedman’s expertise is in developing and launching communications strategies and communicating complex ideas and innovations to diverse global audiences.
Before joining SRI in October, 2022, Freedman served as Stanford University’s Associate Dean for Communications and Community Affairs at the School of Engineering, where he oversaw all communications, marketing, and community-building activities at the university’s largest school by number of students. Previously, he led content and editorial initiatives at Stanford Graduate School of Business and, earlier, oversaw public affairs at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation.
His teams have won multiple awards and received wide recognition for storytelling, design, podcasts, employee engagement, and digital, print, and social media, including Emmy and Webby nominations, and acknowledgement as one of the world’s top content marketing organizations. He has also spoken widely at industry conferences and professional development workshops on digital media and storytelling, brand marketing, and principles of inclusive communications and design. In addition, he has taught or co-taught writing, journalism, and critical thinking at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Earlier in his career, he was a writer, editor, and foreign correspondent at Forbes and Newsweek, and his work has been published in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal and the Atlantic. Freedman received his M.S. in Journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his B.A. in Religion at Emory University.
