SRI bolsters the leadership team to deliver cutting-edge research into commercial products and services, driving growth and innovation across various industries.
Peter Marcotullio has been named SRI’s new Senior Vice President of Commercialization. In this role, Marcotullio will lead SRI’s efforts to deliver innovative solutions that address critical global challenges through a variety of commercial pathways.
“Peter’s deep understanding of our research and his ability to identify commercial opportunities make him the ideal leader for this role,” said SRI Chief Executive Officer David Parekh. “I look forward to working with Peter and our customers to develop and bring to market extraordinary technologies across an array of fields, including AI, biosciences, quantum technology, and many more.”
With 25 years of experience at SRI, Marcotullio has a proven track record of success in commercialization, licensing, and patent development. During his tenure at SRI, the institute has brought world-changing technologies to market such as Electro-active Polymer Artificial Muscle spun out as Artificial Muscle, Inc. (acquired by Parker Hannifin), Redwood Robotics (acquired by Google), WiFi ad hoc networking (broadly licensed), location-based and GPS technologies (broadly licensed), and advanced Lidar (licensed to Argo AI/Ford), among many others.
Marcotullio was instrumental in developing and launching the Nomura-SRI Innovation Center (NSIC) in 2022, which connects Japanese corporations with the Silicon Valley ecosystem. A champion of collaboration, he has worked broadly across a global and diverse range of sectors and with companies and partners to deliver SRI’s innovations to the market.
“SRI’s commercial solutions are tailored to meet the specific needs of its clients, and the institute has a proven track record of delivering value and driving innovation,” said Marcotullio. “Many of our clients return because they quickly see the impact we can make. I’m excited to collaborate with SRI experts to develop transformative solutions and identify the optimal path to bring these breakthroughs to market.”
Marcotullio succeeds Suresh Sunderrajan who has led the commercialization group since September 2022 and will now be the institute’s new chief financial officer, a position he has held since earlier this year in an interim capacity. “I am incredibly proud of the work the commercialization team has done to further secure SRI’s reputation for bringing groundbreaking technologies to market,” said Sunderrajan. “Our ‘connect-and-scale’ strategy, combined with the recent DARPA Commercial Accelerator award and a new collaboration with the Japan Ministry of Defense, positions SRI to drive accelerated impact and growth under Peter’s leadership.”
