Abstract

Sensing-based interaction is at the core of, or synonymous with, many emerging or fast developing areas of human-computer interaction research, including pervasive, ubiquitous or context aware computing, intelligent environments, augmented reality interfaces, and tangible interfaces. Many new ideas, analyses, and prototypes are pushing the boundaries of what we believe is possible with, and what we think is important about, sensing-based interaction. However, serious challenges lie ahead when human-system interaction switches to implicit sensing, rather than explicit command-based input.
